Wine of the Week: 2023 Champagne Gonet-Médeville

sip

Okay, I have to admit it—I’m a bit of a champagne snob. Sorry not sorry. I love bubbles and I cannot lie! But there’s a good reason for it. Champagne, the sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France, is crafted under strict regulations (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) and boasts a unique terroir (soil, climate, etc) that shapes a pretty exceptional flavor profile.

In my misbegotten youth, Veuve and Moet had me in a chokehold. But I’m on a mission to break free from LVMH’s chains and explore more of the goodness Champagne has to offer.

Recently, my mentor and Champagne Queen Alicia Towns Franken introduced me to Gonet-Médeville during an afternoon of bubbles, charcuterie, and spades in Martha’s Vineyard. This one is a new favorite. Here’s why:

Julie and Xavier Gonet-Médeville are a power couple behind in the French wine world. They’re committed to uniting work in the vineyard and the cellar, understanding that a quality wine has to start from the land to end in your glass. I couldn’t agree more! This champagne is made from organically grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, which are hand harvested, and crafted with the utmost care.

Let’s get into the wine.
Looks like: pale gold rays of sunshine in a glass

Smells like: a Sunday morning stroll into a french bakery - bread, butter and bliss

Tastes like: an apple tart, washed down with a brioche bun because you deserve!

I love the wine, the philosophy behind it, and the care that went into it. Next time you need bubbles for a special occasion (like, waking up in the morning) look out for this gem. Give it a try, let me know how much you love it! Cheers <3
