This week, I’m excited to share a delightful discovery: the Wolf & Woman 2023 Pinotage. As someone who loves dining out and exploring new wines, I stumbled upon this gem while enjoying dinner with a friend visiting from the US. She mentioned that she hadn’t found a Pinotage she truly enjoyed, which was a heartbreaking revelation! Determined to change her mind, I introduced her to this standout bottle.

Crafted by winemaker Jolandie Fouche, who was born and raised in the Swartland region of South Africa, the Wolf & Woman Pinotage is a testament to her passion and expertise. Jolandie sources fruit from old, dry-farmed bush vines, many over 50 years old(!). This method, with no irrigation, yields grapes with a higher concentration of flavor.

Now for the wine:

The wine presents a regal purple color, with bright red cherries and a hint of savory spice and coffee on the nose. On the palate, tart plum, balanced acidity and some tobacco make it a versatile pairing for a variety of dishes. With only 5,000 bottles produced, you can taste the love and care that went into each one.
